HEROES CON is one of the most consistently busy shows of the year. Not speaking of them specifically but shows in general– promoters used to tout the large crowds– so you’d get statements like “over 100,000 people attended!” etc– after the pandemic they tend to downplay crowds.
I don’t know what the numbers were for HEROES but I do know they had pretty long lines everyday and the flow of the crowd on the floor was very steady. One thing HEROES does very well is to give you a lot of space– so there’s never a point you can’t walk through the show– unlike San Diego or New York Comic Cons where it’s often wall to wall people and if the crowd stops so do you– or in the case of an experience I had in New York if someone falls over it creates a domino effect where EVERYONE falls over.
Most shows slow down around 3pm and that was the norm here– so usually that’s a chance to run out to grab a coffee or gather some lunch. HEROES tends to be busy right up to closing time each day.
The show ran FRI-SAT-SUN and when it’s Thursday night that seems like a long time but in the blink of an eye it’s Sunday and pretty soon you’re loading up the boxes and heading home.
We drove about an hour away from Charlotte and needed to pull over to get some gas and grab a quick meal– we stopped at what looked like a pretty clean ARBIE’S ™ but what we encountered was anything but– and the men’s room was an absolute horror show.
Overall the Convention was a winner as we doubled sales projections and everyone got home in one piece.
Looking forward to next year.
