BOB KANE “PAINTING” CATWOMAN

Bob Kane was a cartoonist who did a few things like Peter Pupp in the mid to late 1930s. He’s best known for creating BATMAN but in reality he didn’t because his friend Bill Finger talked him out of going with the red and black costume he’d come up with and use the more traditional design still basically in use today.

How much Kane actually did in creating remains up for debate– he was known for hiring ghosts which was a pretty common thing for newspaper artists of the day– and he tended to keep the ghosts away from each other so each thought Kane did more than he actually did.

He was a businessman, and he was a showman, during the Batman Craze launched with the success of the TV Series in 1966 Kane cashed in with a series of paintings that he sold for big dollars at galleries in New York– one of the paintings is shown above– and ironically the woman dressed as Catwoman is actually the artist who painted the image- Lynne Feldman.
