LINCOLN MONSTERS RETURN

When I was a kid Mego was extremely popular– they started with ACTION JACKSON who was an 8″ rival to GI JOE complete with different outfits you could dress him in for various adventures. Then came WORLD’S GREATEST SUPERHEROES which featured comic book heroes SUPERMAN, BATMAN, ROBIN and AQUAMAN soon to be joined by CAPTAIN AMERICA, SPIDER-MAN and TARZAN. The line continued from 1972-1983 and eventually featured dozens of characters expanding into STAR TREK, PLANET OF THE APES, THE WALTONS, SONNY & CHER, MAD MONSTERS and quite a few more.

Because it was so successful other companies jumped in and produced cheap rack toy versions– one of my favorite was Lincoln Monsters who started with a very harmless looking Frankenstein and a somewhat more intense Dracula before adding a Mummy and a Wolf Man. The nice thing about them was they offered enemies for your Mego Heroes to fight so universe’s could collide.

Two years ago Mego returned and re-issued many of its original figures as 50th Anniversary replicas– recently a couple of good friends of mine launched a new take on LINCOLN MONSTERS and you can check them out.
