I thought I’d spotlight a few local comic shops I recommend– I’m very picky about stores because I spent so many years in retail upper management.

WONDERLAND COMICS – 160 Main Street – Putnam CT

There’s a lot to like in Putnam CT– there is a vibrant downtown which has a lot of fun events– situated down a few blocks from the heart of it is WONDERLAND COMICS a nicely run very clean large comic book store– it has a great selection of new titles, wall displays of vintage comics (which changes very often) and back issues in the back half of the store. There is also a lot of collectible merchandise if you’re into high end action figures or statues.

There is a gaming area but I’ve not seen it being used in the many times I’ve been there. It’s a very family friendly store and the woman who runs it goes out of her way to help you find what you’re looking for.

PARKING – there is a public lot about three blocks away and a good amount of street parking.

PROS – There is a lot to do around the store as well with great restaurants, antique shops, bookstores, record stores etc. It’s a big bright store which looks like what the average person would think of as a comic book store.

Good selection, family friendly and its never so busy you’re getting bumped.

CONS – While the woman who runs the store is great, the man who is there has very little personality. When I asked about a book behind the counter he was visibly annoyed. Not great.
