I thought I’d spotlight a few local comic shops I recommend– I’m very picky about stores because I spent so many years in retail upper management.
HALL OF COMICS – 122 Turnpike Road – WESTBORO MA
THEHALLOFCOMICS.COM
A super family friendly store in a strip mall next door to a pretty authentic New York Deli– blink and you’ll miss the entrance to drive in, it’s just past the intersection/traffic light; look for the Dunkin Donuts on your right the parking lot is directly behind it and the next right.
Run by true comic fans it’s a great store that does a lot for the community and for charity– often hosting art marathons where folks donate to whatever cause they’re supporting. The store itself is well laid out, bright and clean; on the display wall is a whole display of comic book sketch covers by artists who have either visited the store or had some connection to them. They even have a display of a Teen Titans book still wrapped in an evidence packet which was returned to them by the police after it was stolen– it’s a really unique item with the fingerprint powder still visible from the po po investigating the crime.
They have a very wide selection of new titles and back issues going back to the late 1950s — they offer a subscription service (I have one) so you can order books through an email link and they’ll put it aside for you.
PROS – Friendly staff– ask for Jake. The store is incredibly clean, large selection of bargain books and dollar bins if you are looking for some fun reading. Nice display of high end collectibles.
CONS – If you don’t know where it is you might shoot past it, take your next right and circle back around.
PARKING – Large lot right in the strip mall, no worries.
