DICK TRACY VS CUEBALL (1946 – RKO Pictures)

The main cast is back although Jimmy Crane is now playing Junior– Morgan Conway who gave a solid performance as Tracy is back again and I think he’s even better this time. This one might not be quite as dark as the first one but in many ways it’s superior.

We’ve got more characters including well known character actress Rita Corday a frequent player in film-noir’s including the Philip Marlowe classic MURDER MY SWEET (1944-RKO), here she’s playing Filthy Flora who runs the sinister Dripping Dagger Bar where all the worst people seem to meet.

Our villain this time is Cueball- a massive hairless beast of a man whose temper gets the best of him as he strangles folks who get in his way.

There’s a sub-plot of stolen diamonds which guides the story but once again you’re watching a Tracy movie for the wild characters this time we’re treated to the first appearance of Vitamin Flintheart– a John Barrymore parody — played to perfection by Ian Keith (who almost beat Bela Lugosi out of the DRACULA role in 1931).

This one has everything the first one had plus a little more.
