TERRIFICON Comic Book Convention in Connecticut

Terrificon Comic Book Convention – it was held Aug 8-10th at Moheghan Sun Casino in Uncasville Ct. and we went down for the show Friday and part of Saturday. Despite being a local show (it’s an easy hour away) we’ve never been invited as guests, which is ironic since we are brought in for a lot of West Coast shows over the years.

But no matter– Robo Picto was setup and it’s a show we’ve been to in the past and had some fun at so we opted to get a room at a Bed and Breakfast down the road and visit it again this year.

The show, which has been running ten years or so, has become a juggernaut, although the venue is nowhere near the size of a Heroes Con or San Diego Comic Con (which is massive) they do the best they can with the space they have, and there’s no denying it’s an impressive show with equally massive lines.

We zipped in with our passes and despite being a Friday afternoon the room was packed- I managed to pickup a few books I was looking for- we had some meetings with potential printers for MAKIMONO ENTERTAINMENT (check them out in the links- we’re producing some great comics there) and said hello to a few friends.

Some comics I was able to get while I was there;

This last one is a CGC Slabbed page from DETECTIVE COMICS #35 (1940). Many of the most valuable comics in history are now being sold as loose pages– as crazy at this sounds it’s a way for collectors to get a piece of a $100,000 book. DETECTIVE #35 is an extremely rare book– I’ve only seen this pre-Robin comic book a handful of times over the years, and the last time I watch a copy at auction it closed at $175,000. Too rich for my blood.

Some of these single pages can go for upwards of $2000 on their own.

I’ll post more of my pickups later this week.
