We stopped in Target a few weeks ago and while Veronica shopped for plates, sheets and towels I wandered around. The store looked to be in good shape considering it was a Saturday night and I assumed they’d been pretty busy. I have some friends who are often looking for SDCC Exclusives that often make their way to the collectible section in the back of the store. While the rest of the store looked good– the toy aisle and the collectible section looked like you took a perfectly stocked set of store shelves and lifted them 30 feet off the ground and dropped them back down.
Yikes.
Then about four weeks later a friend told me Target had some cool Halloween Blow Mold decorations this year.
Blow Mold’s go all the way back to the turn of the last century but gained popularity in the 40s and 50s– they are literally molten plastic that is blown into a mold, similar to glass making, and then painted after they cool. Their translucent nature makes them perfect to stick a bulb in and light ’em up.
They lost popularity around the 1980s when everyone decided those inflatable decorations were great. I understand the appeal, when you are done you deflate them and they’re easier to store than a bunch of molded plastic. But I’m a vintage guy so I’m glad to see Target bring them back.
Rather than subject myself to the destruction and lines at Target I decided to jump on their website and sho”nuff you could order them right there– free shipping if you spent $35 so I added in a couple of essentials I needed and two days later everything showed up.
Fun stuff.
