Art Show at WGBH – MASS MINI CON

Picked up this great Lugosi Letterpress Print at the Show.

This weekend Veronica setup at the MASS MINI CON Show at the WGBH Building in Boston (which is actually in Brighton). The show was one of the smallest shows I’ve ever seen- no more than maybe 30 tables, but what was there was choice. I bought several prints, a couple of art books and even some pins and keychains.

The event is in its third year and they’re hoping to expand– it’s a two day show but if you came out for it you easily can see everything in one day, but like I said it was LOADED with some amazing images and interesting items. I even bought an LP from the artists next to us because they put an amazing amount of work into the design of the album itself– the album is from the band JENNY EVANS and the title is HAUNT YOUR OWN HOUSE– advertised as instrumental goth punk it could have gone a lot of different directions but I’m happy to report that it was actually a really good album.

We did both days and opted not to get a hotel room since we’d waited too long– but next year we might spend the weekend in Cambridge and visit some old stomping grounds for us.

Back to the show- it’s a show for people who appreciate art, design and especially film– you could talk really obscure films for several hours with anyone on the floor.

On the first day the lunch order got mixed up– so I ended up running across the street to grab lunch at the bar at the legendary steakhouse THE STOCKYARD. I had a nice half hour break watching a college football game and enjoying a really good burger.

On the second day we split a Chicken Kabob meal which was very good but the chicken was SO dry you really should eat it with a buddy system (like Devil Dogs). We packed up on Sunday night and headed home, too tired to stop for a proper meal we hit McDonald’s on the Mass Pike and had our versions of adult happy meals (standard burger– in my case a double, small fries and a drink). We were surprised to see that they’ve introduced Happy Meals for adults, but we stuck with our own. We found a quiet spot in the rest stop to enjoy our meal. McDonald’s has a special place for us food snobs because Veronica’s grandfather really enjoys their burgers- and when we visit him in Des Moines taking him out for a trip to McDonald’s on the DRAKE UNIVERSITY Campus is a must do part of the itinerary.

Doing the show as an assistant is pretty wild. I’m used to selling my own work, but it was fun just being a helper.
