7-Eleven just announced they’re going to revamp their US Stores with a focus on the prepared foods they offer to see if that generates the kind of success they have in Japan. Now if I’d never been to 7-Eleven in Japan my response would be “huh?”.
7-Eleven is not known to most American’s as something worth stopping at unless you’re desperate for a bathroom or some horrible looking piece of meat that’s been rolling around on a grill for 36 hours.
But in Japan– they are bright and clean and the food offerings are actually remarkable. You can get a steamed bun filled with various ingredients hot at the register, baked sweet potatoes which make a perfect healthy snack on a cold day. And as Tony Bourdain was said- the absolute best Egg Salad Sandwich anywhere. They also have my favorite- a mini pancake sandwich– it’s about the size of a medium sized cookie, two small pancakes while between the two layers is a thing of butter and some syrup. You can warm it up if you want to, I never have but I bet it makes a 9.0 snack a 10.0.
So I’m all for a revamp, and unlike Cracker Barrel’s recent debacle, this one makes sense.
