I don’t normally post details of my personal life, we have three sons all of them worthy of a lot of pride. #3 son Adam has opted to follow in the family tradition and join the world of Freelance Commercial Artists, which makes him, like anyone in the field, a public figure, so it is that I spotlight him here, while leave son’s #1 and #2 in the seclusion of private life.
First, you can check out his work here. He’s also listed up there under FRIENDS & LINKS.
Adam has a strong and unique voice in his work– definitely Americana with a solid line and some amazing color and design sense. I’m honestly a big fan and own several of his originals.
He’s also an accomplished website designer you need to only look so far as RoboPicto to see some powerful imagery and layout.
Let me tell you a story about Adam; We were walking back from the convention center in Charlotte NC, we’d finished dinner and decided to go over to the Westin to check out the auction. I was walking up ahead with Adam while a few paces behind us were Number Two son Joe and our good friend Ethan. The sidewalk was busy, not New York busy but then Charlotte is not New York but as you’ll see in the story its getting nearly as dangerous.
Adam and I start to turn to go up the steps to the Westin when a kid on an electric razor scooter whizzes between us, missing us by inches. I’m in a “What the hell?” moment and I look back because I can hear Ethan yelling, the Scooter clown had hit Joe who Ethan was helping over to a small wall to sit down, I started to head to Joe but turned and realized Adam was chasing after the scooter on foot.
It was around 8pm so it was still light out and the heat had dropped to about 88 with an equal level of humidity so for Charlotte it was a cool comfortable night– I “bolted” after Adam rounded a corner just in time to see him disappear over a bridge about a quarter mile from me.
There was a third problem too, there were in all about thirty kids all zipping around on scooters– and I didn’t get a good enough look at the kid to be able to ID him, but neither did I want Adam running into a gang alone.
Needless to say it all worked out– Joe was only bruised but Adam’s fearlessness and instant resolve to go get this guy was incredible to say the least.
Fear isn’t in his makeup. When he was seven that was a different story, but that’s a tale for another day.
Today’s his birthday, and he and his gorgeous gal will hopefully get to take some time to enjoy it.
