I LIKE STAR TREK

I’ve mentioned it here before so it’s old news, but I like Star Trek, The Original Series. I like the colors and the costumes and the cheesy aliens and sets, I like “the future” as seen through the eyes of the 1960s.

I don’t like any of the offshoots of the show, including all of the movies, even with the original cast. I own STAR TREK THE MOTION PICTURE and I vow SOMEDAY to get through it without falling asleep.

I tried watching Next Generation, Voyager, Enterprise and a bunch of the other ones, nope, not for me.

Then they did the Chris Pine movie which was a new movie featuring the original characters. I went into it wanting to like it, I really did. Nope I disliked it even more than the other ones I don’t like.

The reason is simple as this; STAR TREK is William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, Jimmy Doohan, Nichelle Nickels and Sulu and Chekov and all the rest of them. I even had the opportunity to meet all of them except Kelley and Nimoy. All were good decent people. Nichelle and I had a cup of coffee in the lobby of a Chicago hotel on an unusually cold and rainy summer day waiting for out limo to arrive. She was very charming.

The new movie just had no heart.

They’ve announced they’re going to make another movie featuring the original characters and that Pine and Company are out– and I was optimistic, but then I realized I’m not going to like it– and even if I might I just am not one of those people that want more of something that is a pale imitation of the original.
