NATIONAL GORILLA SUIT DAY 2026

My all time favorite Hollywood Gorilla is Ray Corrigan, he was a very popular Gorilla Suit actor in the 1930s-1950s before selling his costumes to Steve Calvert who took over from there.

Because that’s how it worked back then. Rather than have a Gorilla Suit in the Studio Wardrobe Department they would hire a guy who owned (and knew how to act correctly) a gorilla suit.

Tomorrow is National Gorilla Suit Day- a day that was formulated by MAD Magazine Cartoonist Don Martin because if you live in the Northeast and you’ve made it from Christmas to the end of January you’ve barely hung on to your sanity so we’ll grasp at anything to make these bleak days of winter more than just another freezing cold day with snow, ice, rain, sleet, or who knows what.

I’ve honestly changed my views on a lot of things including Winter. I enjoy the cold, I skip the gym on the days I have to shovel, we had a nice dinner party with friends and we do our best to find clear weather and get ourselves out for a nice dinner someplace very warm.

We’ve also tried some new recipes, I recently made a Beef Soup with steak and massive potatoes in the crock pot– I let it simmer for a full day before serving it and it’s so tender it melts in your mouth.

But tomorrow is National Gorilla Suit Day– will I or won’t I sit on the couch at some point in my own personal suit? You never know.
