Not sure what airport AI generated, but I’d bet having a jet engine blow straight into the terminal is a bad idea, same as parking a small plane in the passenger drop off area.
I fly quite a bit, and here in the Big Woo we have our own airport. 90% of the time I fly out of Boston– I’m comfortable getting there- I think it’s an easy 45 min ride but I don’t enjoy returning and spending another $200 on parking. I’ve used the Logan Express into Framingham often but that has transformed from riding a luxury bus to riding a city bus, so I’m out.
Within an hour or so of me are other airports too- Providence, Hartford etc but when you fly in winter you don’t want to have an hour long commute when you get back.
Lucky for me ORH (Worcester Airport’s call symbol) flies directly to several spots in Florida- the downside is there is only one flight to each destination each day so if something happens you’re not getting there today.
But what’s it like?
PARKING- easy as could be and cheap. I think it’s in the $7/day range but honestly it’s so cheap I don’t even notice it.
TSA – the airport is small– you go up a flight or stairs or an escalator and you’re at TSA– if you have pre-check like I do they hand you an index card that you hold up as you move through the single line, which kind of negates the Pre-Check thing if the five people in front of you still have to struggle to take off their belts.
Terminal – There is plenty of seating and a convenience store which sells packaged sandwiches and microwave pizza. No bar to sit in while you mull how much air travel has declined since you were a kid. The times I’ve flown out the planes are full. I know a recent article said they are going to try to double the travelers but I don’t see how. If they are flying empty planes I’ve not been lucky enough to be on them.
Baggage Claim- there’s only ONE baggage claim area on your return so it doesn’t get much easier than that. The parking is handled with a pay station in the terminal and hopefully the plows didn’t bury you in during the inevitable bomb cyclone blizzard/hurricane/Nor’easter that likely occurred while you were traveling and you’ll be on your way.
Car Rentals – if that’s part of your trip– they have at least two and most of the time they are open.
So flying out of ORH is very easy save some minor things you might miss at a larger airport (restaurant, bar, chance to walk and stretch your legs), but if you an make it work it’s worthwhile.
