RAISING CANE’S

Last time on Andy’s Adventures with fast food chicken we visited Chick FIL A– this time I hit up RAISING CANE’S ™ which just recently opened in the Woo at the former burial ground of Denny’s ™ on Lincoln Street.

Unlike Chick Fil A ™ and just about every other fast food restaurant the menu is extremely limited– see how the logo says “Chicken Fingers”? Well they aren’t kidding– their menu consists of chicken fingers either in a box or on a bun and that’s about it.

Walking in at Noon on a Friday the place was jammin’ and the music conveyed a dance club kind of theme– the line moved quickly– so quickly in fact I didn’t hear the kid when he called me over to another register (the music didn’t help either) I ordered a 4 piece box which came with Crinkle Cut Fries, Texas Toast and Cole Slaw. They asked our name and #3 son and I took a seat. We debated if we were going to be able to hear or understand the girl who was yelling out names when the order came up because it was loud in there.

Only took about four minutes and sho nuff our orders were up. We filled our drinks and went back to our high rise seats in the middle of the restaurant. I will say this; the fries, the cole slaw and the texas toast was all excellent. I’m a sucker for really good cole slaw and this was. The chicken itself was certainly white meat, lightly breaded but still very crunchy. It reminded me of when my grandmother used to make “healthy” fried chicken by rolling it in corn flakes and then baking it– the chicken was moist and mostly tender, I guess I can’t really explain what made it not hit the spot for me but it didn’t. A few hours later I didn’t feel sick but I didn’t feel great either. Oh and the sauce– this was one of the craziest things I’ve ever seen– people were ordering TRAYS of sauce and then dumping them into giant to go cups– I saw two different people doing this, and like Chick Fil A ™ I didn’t like the sauce at all. The chicken could have used some salt– I actually went up to get some after fighting through the crowd to get to the drink machine but when I got back to the table I realized I’d grabbed sugar and I wasn’t going back- I just didn’t have it in me.

So the chicken was a little bland. Unlike Chick FIL A ™ they don’t have any other sauce options so I didn’t have much I could do.

Would I go back? It certainly wasn’t bad and I fully support the founder’s love of dogs– but I probably wouldn’t. The sides were all better than the chicken– overall rating 6.0
