What We Do In the Shadows

WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS is a comedy show about four vampires living together in a haunted house type residence in Long Island. Along with their Familiar Guillermo they allow a documentary crew to follow them around and record their adventures.

It’s a very funny show, beautifully done with great sets, wardrobes, color schemes and it features Matt Berry who is one of the funniest guys the BBC has ever offered. The real star of the show is Guillermo– the overweight easily frightened familiar who is actually a descendant of Van Helsing and therefore despite his shortcomings is actually one of the greatest vampire slayers there is. I love when he’s killing vampires but screaming as he does it.

I’d recommend the show with some caveats; the language is intense, and there is a lot of nudity and sexuality so maybe you might not let the kids watch or wait until Grandma goes to bed. I think the show would be just as funny if they removed that stuff to appeal to a wider audience but then I guess it would lose that “edge” everyone wants anything hip to have.

Great performances, surprise guest stars, and if you’re into any type of British comedy or vampire films I think you might like it, but since the series has just wrapped up its Sixth and final season you probably are way ahead of me on this one.

It’s available streaming on HULU and BRITBOX.
