I tried Omaha Steaks for me and the Boys this Christmas— the irony is they told me they had thought about the same thing for many years over.
Omaha has some good deals around Christmas, but you’re still paying a premium price for Steaks, Hamburger and Hot Dogs.
It arrives in a giant styrofoam cooler packed with dry ice. That’s problem #1— what do you do with this thing after you’ve opened it? Recycling has become a lot more complicated and the idea of braking this down into tiny blocks didn’t sound like a lot of fun.
Hilariously Omaha addresses the problem by offering you solutions; You can use it as a cooler yourself— very true— but the idea of running a subscription would mean you have twelve of these over the course of a year, that’s a lot of coolers.
I guess you could make a giant igloo— you could build a fort— one of their other suggestions was to use these things to hold files— you would need a walk in vault to house them.
Okay so how was the quality of the meat?
It was really good— excellent in many cases.
The meats all come sealed in airtight bags in neat little boxes. There’s a cookbooklet for some tips and some included spices which are quite good. They threw in some Steak Fries which I could live without but I thought the Filets were top notch.
Everything seems very fresh and I assume flash frozen— it was nice not to have to buy any protein for a few weeks and surprisingly the Chicken Breasts were exceptional.
Delivery was quick, although the gift orders I sent to the boys didn’t arrive as I’d scheduled them, they arrived sooner, but overall its a good service I’d recommend.
