It’s Time

Cressi Manta Dive Watch

A few years ago I bought this watch— I really liked how striking it was— it didn’t hurt that it was Halloween colors either. As the years went on I added more Dive Watches— including my beloved Hawaiian Lifeguard’s— I have three or four of those. I also own a few Skaggen Dress Watches, but for everyday wear I like Dive Watches.

The Cressi sat in my watch case for a while, taking second place to the much more vibrant Hawaiian Lifeguard watches I had. The trouble with the Cressi was simply the black band— too much black— I really wanted an Orange Band. I reached out to Cressi directly— which is located in Italy — and asked if I could buy a band from them. Pasta Guiole was there response, not being Italian I assumed that was some form of insult. CJ can correct me.

So I did the next best thing- I went to my Jeweler— yes I have one. Just like I have a Tailor, and a Shirt Maker and a Mechanic and a Doctor and a Tax Attorney I have a Jeweler— odd for a man who doesn’t like jewelry but my wife does. I showed him the watch, he took one look at it and handed it back to me and replied Pasta Guiole.

I began to see a pattern.

He told me he could not replace the band because it was curved.

Undaunted, I ordered a watch repair kit and a curved orange watch band. It wasn’t easy— in fact it was what I would at best call a struggle— but eventually I got it.

Victory was mine- My Cressi Manta Dive Watch now with Orange band.

Eagle eyed viewers will notice (and certainly point out) that I said I don’t like Jewelry but lookit there- three bracelets and a ring! Ha! Surely I’m a liar!

True— the bracelets are from Fahlo and they allow you to track an animal using your smart phone. I liked the first one so much I got more. Currently I track a Polar Bear— the deadliest land animal, an Elephant and a Gorilla. They also remind me of my three sons— #1 son has the brute strength of the Gorilla while #2 son has the smarts of an Elephant and #3 son is often underestimated and likely the deadliest of the three. The ring is one my wife gave me fifteen years ago when we got married— but that’s it for Jewelry for me.
