MAN VS PIZZA - ROUND II

Sorry kids— I don’t take photos of my food.

So a couple of weeks ago we had pizza at Oli’s in West Boylston— before that we had Hawaiian Pizza (pineapple and ham) at Tony’s Pizza in Sutton— we never get Pizza at Tony’s because they have an extensive and really great menu of other things we like.

One recent Thursday night we decided to try Olo’s Pizza on Millbrook Street which is located in the old Dacosta’s Pizza spot in a weird part of the Greendale area of Worcester behind Chic A Filet and the new Kelly’s Roast Beef. Beware the place has a tiny and convoluted parking lot— I wouldn’t even bother, instead park on the side road that runs parralel to the back of Kelly’s and the rest of the businesses in that plaza. There’s a pretty good chance if you do manage to get into their lot you’re going to be blocked in because the designer of this lot apparently is a huge fan of MAD MAX THUNDERDOME — two cars enter one car leaves.

The joint was jumping as the kids say and once again, like Oli’s, not to be confused with Olo’s— we had to sit at the bar, this time we had a corner so we were able to talk to each other without twisting our necks.

Unlike Oli’s we had a disagreement about what type of pizza to get— Veronica was feeling the Veggie Pizza (Arugala, Asparagus, Mushrooms and a bunch of other stuff I thought sounded good but also with Olives (yuck), while I was really set on trying something with Parents— so we decided to get TWO pizzas this time— I really thought we should just see if they could do a haffa haffa but Veronica was into the idea of our own pies.

She ordered the Veggie one holding the Olives and I got whatever the pizza was called that had pepperoni and sausage on it — I couldn’t read a word on the menu because once again I forgot my reading glasses. That night they were having a Three For special, so you could get three pizzas for the price of two— we chose to stick with just two, I assumed we’d have about a full pizza left over with our order already and our refrigerator was pretty full. Veronica got a Sangria which she thought was very good and I got a Diet Coke which came in one of those giant red plastic cups pizza places like.

The bar itself was packed, which made fitting two pizzas, plates, silverware and our drinks a challenge. The three older women sitting next to Veronica were clearly on some last meal night out because I’ve never seen any group order so much food and down it so quickly. Next to me was a very nice older woman who got a Pepperoni and Buffalo Chicken pizza.

The pizza’s came and they were huge.

I liked the wood baked taste added to the crust— which was the slightest bit thicker than Oli’s — which to be fair when you got into the middle of their strange waffle cut style was non-existent— and the pepperoni which appeared to be thick cut was excellent. The sausage was exactly the same level of spice as Oli’s. Our bartender gave us a box for our combined full pizza leftover—one of the things I found strange is their pizza boxes don’t fit their pizzas— so I wonder if you order to go do they make it smaller or do they just cram it in there? Overall it was excellent and slightly better than Oli’s. Next week I have a dinner date with the boys to try the pizza at Table 12 in WEST BOYLSTON but to be honest with you I’m getting a little pizza’d out.

We paid our bill and ran some errands in Holden where I stopped and got a small cone of Coconut and Pineapple Ice Cream at Meola’s to sooth my sausage burned esophagus and it was really good, and I’m not even a big fan of ice cream.

I give the win to Olo’s for the pizza but extra points to Oli’s for the service which was far better.
