When Lucky’s closed down I had a hard time finding a really good breakfast place for the weekends. Schultzy’s in Sutton is good, but its decor is something less than a pizza place, Puffin’s in Millbury is good, but the tables are cramped and the place is LOUD. Livia’s Dish and its sister restaurant are both solid choices but they tend to have what I call hipster breakfasts– I like simple diner food choices for breakfast.
So it was that we finally made our way to BISTRO 185 on Shrewsbury Street in the Woo. It took the place of the beloved Mac’s Diner which at one point might have been the best restaurant in the city.
Light and airy and very clean we hit the place at 2pm on a Saturday after a heavy morning of yard work when we realized we’d yet to have breakfast.
We both got two eggs and toast with homefries, all were hot and exceptional. Making eggs correctly, especially scrambled eggs, seems simple enough but there’s more to it than meets the eye; the eggs should be fluffy without a trace of brown and these were spot on. The homemade toast was fantastic and in addition I also ordered bacon and a single pancake.
Allow me to slide into a Nate Bargatzi routine here; I love pancakes… so much. They make me…so tired.
Something about eating a half a loaf of bread with butter and syrup does not lead one to be able to go out and perform Batman like stunts of jumping from rooftop to rooftop, instead its like adding 30lb weight belts all around you.
Back to the food, the pancake was exceptional too– light and fluffy as pancakes should be and most importantly all of our order came out at the same time and everything was nice and hot.
I didn’t try the coffee since I’d had a couple of cups earlier in the day but I’ll be back and I’ll certainly report my findings. One of the best things about Schultzy’s in Sutton is if there is a wait, they serve you piping hot amazing coffee while you wait– making it so much easier. Hopefully the coffee lives up to the food at 185– but right now I give it my highest recommendation.
5 Stars.
