NEW OFFICE CHAIR II
Always fun to find one of our books in the wild— we saw this at Tatnuck Bookseller the day before.
We arrived for pickup on Sunday— they’d told me after I paid for the chair the previous day to have Number Two Son go to Online Orders to pick up the chair— we got back there and sure enough it was about the only box around.
The clerk came over I pointed to the box, showed him my receipt and then started the Pricing Question
ME: I noticed I got charged for $259 for the chair, when it had a sign on it for $219 (I had taken a picture of the sign with the barcode for the cashier the day before in case they needed it— as I did that Veronica found a large flat trolley and loaded the chair on it so they scanned the actual box).
CLERK: The online price isn’t always the same as the in-store price.
ME: Sure, but I didn’t buy this online, I bought it in the store yesterday.
CLERK: You did?
ME: Yes I did.
CLERK: You probably bought it as the sale changed from Saturday to Sunday— that’s when our Ad changes.
ME: I bought it Saturday at 3pm.
CLERK:…
ME:…
CLERK: This is the second time today this happened, I’m going to have to have someone fix those chair prices.
We then went through the extremely complicated method of refunding the first payment and taking the new price payment. It involved me inserting my card into the reader, then as I pulled the card out and put it back in my wallet he would tell me I need my card again— this happened four times— you’d think he would have mentioned keeping the card out.
I also think, if I’m the second person that day that has experienced the chair pricing problem I wouldn’t have tried the other excuses first, but then again most of the stores I’ve run are still in business and Staples ™ seems like it’s clinging to life.
But I got home, put the chair together with the generous help of Number Two Son and life was good.
