SCComicCon Convention Report 2025 Part One: The Journey
A Faux Cover we did featuring the Archie gang in Outer Space— it’s available at ComicArtFans in our booth or you can email me via andy@andytfish.com to purchase it— it’s $500 with free shipping and it’s full cover size 11×17 on Bristol with Japanese inks. A similar piece we did sold for $2800 (not via us) recently so make some money on it.
South Carolina Comic Con is hands down our favorite comic con of the year— we have OAX in January which is an art show, but this comic con is put on by folks who are such good friends they are like family so when they invite us down we are in. It just so happens its the same weekend as LITTLE GIANT COMIC CON in New Hampshire which might be the best single comics only comic con in the entire country— he needs to find a better venue and expand the artist part of it— I know his focus is vintage comics but comic art is a big chunk of the medium.
Anyway, we didn’t do Little Giant we did SCComicCon so let’s get back to focusing shall we?
#2 son was heading up to Little Giant (I can’t stop talking about that show can I?) on Friday morning and offered to drop us at Logan on his way— upside— no Uber, no parking, downside- he’d have to drop us off around Noon and our flight wasn’t until 5pm— we agreed anyway because we figured if the Logan Terminal was a madhouse we could escape to the Admiral’s Lounge since we were flying American Airlines First Class.
As it was check in was a big nothing burger and bag check just as easy so we zipped through TSAPrecheck and were soon in the Terminal area heading towards our gate. We found a super quiet area and worked/read for a bit and then we walked down to Stephanies for lunch. I had a Turkey Club which was more Panini that club and Veronica had a hummus platter— honestly for the price we should have gone back to Lucca’s which was good the last time we ate there.
The plane boarded on time and we headed into Reagan in Washington DC— yes the same airport everyone is saying is overcrowded with planes and we would be arriving at the same time as the deadly plane/helicopter crash. Veronica already hates flying— we are one emergency landing away from her never flying again.
We had a layover of what I remember reading was just under two hours— NOPE. We had a flight of just under two hours— because of delays with weather and the order for us to circle for a bit as we were making our final descent we had NINE minutes to make our connection. Faithful readers will remember from last years SCComicCon report that American lost all our luggage last year— well we were in the same boat— all our luggage was checked again, what can I say I like living on the edge.
Now Reagan isn’t the smallest airport by any means, in fact it’s built like a plus sign with wings at each leg— lucky for us I knew we were flying out of E-50 and low and behold the plane pulled in to E-47— how about the bags? The pilot had suggest I buy some airtags (too late) or use the app which gives you live updates as to where your bags are. Sure enough— there they were— 3 bags— two of them were in TRANSFER status one said Loaded at BOS— that wasn’t great but I was certain Bag #3 was our show banner which is the best thing to lose if we had to sacrifice anything.
With ONE minute to boarding, I checked the app again— all three said TRANSFERRED which in American Airlines App language means the bags have been loaded on the next plane.
Easy flight to Greenville which took just over an hour and as we arrived at Baggage Claim our three bags were the first three off the assembly lines.
Our show handlers were there waiting for us, they grabbed our bags, whisked us off in big black SUVs and got us over to the hotel—we checked in and said hello to show Organizers (and family friends) Rob and Michelle Young— we also were happy to see other old friends like Mark and Aline, Cap, and a host of other great SC folks.
DAY ONE: Tomorrow.
