Artistic Work for a Toy
Mezco’s 5 Points Figure Captures Frank Miller’s Art perfectly
I don’t get excited about toys too often, I collect various vintage ones, and I was thrilled when Mego made an official return two years ago. Mego was a big part of little Andy’s play years— I had all the superheroes and they’d often meet with the original Star Trek Crew, Planet of the Apes and even the guys from Chips (Star Trek and POTA also from Mego- Chips from a Mego ripoff company). They could have interacted with the Walton’s or the Wizard of Oz (also licensed by Mego) but I wasn’t interested in either show.
Mezco is a smallish toy company— which means they do small runs at big prices. Well at San Diego Comic Con a couple of years ago they did these 5 points SIN CITY figures— this one is Marv, complete with an extra arm that held a gun— and a version of Marv sitting in an Electric Chair. I was struck by how accurately they captured artist Frank Miller’s version of the character— visible in the packaging and not easy to do in three dimension. It’s easy to miss these exclusives at SDCC (and there are a lot of them) so I ordered them from Big Bad Toy Store and got them for less than the retail in San Diego.
