My wife is an Astrology Hobbyist– I find this interesting because this is the same woman who painted an AMAZING Full Color super huge image of SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH sitting over a witches circle of enchantment for a client and then turned the original to the wall because she was concerned the symbol would invite demons, or at least there was a chance for that. She thought it invited some kind of dark religion.
I’ve always thought Astrology was just that– a witchy poo crystals and incense kind of spiritualism that is best left to my uber lefty hippy friends and some shops in Salem the Witch City.
We had a discussion and she decided to show me so she ran all my deets and they include when you were born, where you were born and the exact hour of said birth– then came up with an outline of my personality and while my argument has often been Astrology is so general it could almost fit anyone, I couldn’t argue with the results.
“A Capricorn Sun, Aquarius Moon, and Sagittarius Rising produces a complex, paradox-driven personality that balances grounded ambition with unconventional intellectualism and an adventurous spirit. You are a visionary, driven to succeed through unique methods, appearing friendly and open while remaining emotionally detached.“
Okay one might say such a flattering description would certainly get one’s attention– but it hits on a lot of points “appearing friendly” absolutely applies, I’ll have a good ten minute conversation with a neighbor walking by but when that neighbor invites me over for gin and steaks I’m reluctant to say yes. I do enjoy social events but I’m often exhausted afterwards and just want to be by myself to read or pontificate the mindlessness of small talk.
“Approach to Work: You blend Saturnian discipline (Capricorn) with innovative, progressive thinking (Aquarius). You prefer to forge your own path rather than follow traditional routes.“
I’ve lead teams of up to 1000 people an accomplished difficult assignments without fail or falter– but I don’t like being told exactly how to do it. Present me with a problem, ask me to come up with a solution and then let me at it. I also seldom enjoy the debriefing or critique afterwards– if the job got done then mission accomplished.
Some other things that get the nail right on the head;
“Your core identity is driven by ambition and structure. You aren’t just a dreamer; you are a builder who values
Long-term goals: You play the long game.
Integrity: You take your reputation and responsibilities seriously.
Practicality: You need to see tangible results for your efforts.
Emotionally, you are a “cool” character. You process feelings through logic rather than raw sentiment. This placement gives you:
Independence: You need a lot of space and value your “lone wolf” status.
Objective Viewpoint: You can analyze situations without getting caught in the drama.
Humanitarian Leanings: You care deeply about progress and “the big picture”.“
If you want to convince me of something give me the facts, with examples and keep it short. I bore very easily. It’s my biggest flaw and the reason I’m no longer in a golf, Racquetball or Tennis league– I obsess over some new sport (Racquetball and golf lasted the longest) until I get to the point where I’m leveling out, not getting any better and then boredom kicks in.
If you do something against me, depending on the level of our relationship I can forgive you and accept why you did what you did, but I probably can never forget it, and if that something including lying it takes a long time to build back my trust.
I’m often called “the ice man” during stressful situations because I can maintain my composure while everything is collapsing around me, family often refers to me as the “only adult in the room” quite often and the one whose opinion is almost always based on logic. It doesn’t make me the life of the party and often times I get asked “why so serious?”. It’s often beyond my control.
I guess there’s more Spock to me than Kirk but since I’ve also got an aggressive A-Type Personality I like to be in charge. In life I’ve long learned that being second in command is a much better position, but you better like the Captain because nothing is more frustrating than following orders or a plan you know is a losing strategy– when you’re in charge you have the advantage of making the decisions as long as you can live with the outcome of which I am totally comfortable with.
So this Astrology thing– it’s an interesting concept– I do firmly believe there is more to us than just meat, bones and blood, and that somehow the universe is connected– that just makes more sense to me. Shinto teachings would have us believe that we are all molecules shared, the trees, the mountains, the grass and ourselves are all part of those same molecules. Check out Astrology if you have the time or interest, you might be surprised in what you find.
