Hi Andy- as a fellow lifetime Batman fan, I’m really surprised you have such a dislike of Robert Pattison as Batman. I thought he was very good in the role and it was good to see him behave more as a detective than just the brute he was in the Ben Affleck films. I’m serious, I’d love you to get into it a bit.
Well, you and I clearly saw different movies. I couldn’t see him behave more like a detective, in fact I couldn’t see anything, the movie was dark and rainy and it plodded along in almost slow motion.
I wasn’t crazy about Pattison in the role, he came across as a sorty of whiney Kurt Cobain type of character with the running mascara and the daddy problems.
For the record the only Affleck Bat film I’ve ever seen was BATMAN VS SUPERMAN which was absolutely one of the worst written poorly paced and loaded with dialogue so bad my nine year old neice could have done better. When I broke out laughing with #2 son with the whole “revelation” about Martha– the theater angrily asked us to leave (I think we stayed but I’m not sure- depends on how much butter I had left on my popcorn).
There was a time, way back in the day, somewhere around 1988 when the Keaton BATMAN movie had been announced, and they were doing a great deal of promotion and merchandising with the “classic” Batman character. Classic is simply the blue and gray costume version rather than the all black rubber suit version. I was snagging up all kinds of things, mostly figural items, I like 3D collectibles. 1989 hit and all the merch went to the black Batman and I stopped, but friends knew I liked Batman so they’d bring me all the stuff I wasn’t buying which I thought was kind but the black version had no connection for me.
My point being that back then if they released a Golden Girls movie with Batman in it I would have gone on opening day– today? I’m much more selective with both my time and my money. I thought BVS was so bad it pretty much killed my interest in the character on the big screen.
It would take them casting Josh Brolin as Batman to get me to come back, but they aren’t going to do that so I’m done. And that’s A-OK, it’s OK to be a fan of something but not a fan of EVERYTHING that character is in. I still have what I consider good Batman films and those are the ones I’ll watch.
Similar question about James Bond tomorrow.
