Bought a New iPhone

Do I really need to post a picture of an iPhone? C’mon.

I’m not someone who buys an iPhone everytime whoever took over for Steve Jobs squirts out the newest model.. I don’t care about features, I don’t care about picture resolution— I don’t care. I want the phone to ring, to take text messages and to wake me up on the rare occasions I have to actually be somewhere and I need to set an alarm. It’d also be nice to have one that doesn’t feel like it’s going to burst into flames soon.

If I’m being honest I’d rather go back to a landline (going on 28 years since I dumped that) and a pager— but I looked into it and its actually more so that goes out the window.

My current iPhone is an SE— look it up— it’s so far down the evolutionary chart there’s a caveman holding it in catalog photos. I also tend to buy USED— why? Because I’m not spending $900 on a phone. I won’t use anything but an iPhone— I tried an android many many years ago— no thank you.

I saw an article many months ago that Apple would be releasing a new phone with a $599 price tag— that’s still a lot of moolah, but it’s much more palatable than $900 and up. So I did what I always do when I see a piece of important information, I completely forget about it.

I woke up the other morning and my phone had only charged to 64%— there was some kind of gray message telling me something about my battery but I was still a shower and two cups of coffee away from humanity and glasses so I couldn’t read it. As per usualy I put the news on my phone as I shower and when I picked it up it was white hot. NOT a good sign.

Going downstairs and pouring myself an incredible cup of fresh ground coffee I re-entered the world and sat down and scrolled through the phone information which told me my battery was in rough shape. I’d had two events with this phone— once I dropped it into a sink full of hot water while I was shaving— it kept shutting down and coming back on—after about two days it was fine— and then a second time after spending the day working outside on my tree covered deck enjoying cup after cup of that coffee while I worked I went inside as dark clouds started forming and pretty soon we had what I would call a monsoon. Looking out my plate glass door it was pitch black and what little you could see was rain falling and things blowing by.

A little while later while the storm continued I realized I didn’t know where my phone was, using Veronica’s I called mine, and sure enough in the pitch darkness I saw it light up on the table out in the rain.

Another couple of days of shutting down and seeing that white apple symbol followed by shutting down certainly did not do the battery any good.

About a year later the heat started— so I begrudgingly said to Veronica— “I think I need a new phone.” which triggered a foggy distant memory of an article in the New York Post talking about that $599 iPhone— jumping over to Apple I discovered it had been released the day before! Wow!

As both an Apple Shareholder and an Apple Cardholder I get 0% interest on my purchases so I hit a few buttons and ordered a new iPhone. Transferring everything over including eSIM activation was easier than I can describe— simply place the old phone next to the new one and follow the prompts and in 15 mins everything is done.

So for the first time in my entire life I have a brand new iPhone. It makes and takes calls, it sends text message and the alarm? Well, I have an appointment in a few weeks so we’ll see how that works.

All is right in the world and my phone no longer feels like its going to explode in my pocket.
