THINGS WERE GETTING A LITTLE DULL SO…

…my 82 year old Mom, a lifelong fan of Evel Knievel, decided to hurl herself down some steps to see what that was like and she ended up in the hospital with some broken bones.

She’s doing OK for an 82 year old woman who fell down a lot of steps and broke a few bones. As I write this she’s on Day 12 of being in the hospital— the staff is very nice but she rightfully complains the room is too warm (you could bake muffins in there) and every morning with her breakfast they serve her tea instead of coffee. Like me, the thought of tea first thing in the morning is treatment for being poisoned because it makes us want to empty our insides out into a bucket.

Then they finally changed it but her black coffee is coming in luke warm— almost as bad as drinking a cup of tea. So I’ve been swinging by with a hot cup of Dunkins for her and lucky for both of us there is one right in the lobby— I’m shocked the hospital isn’t called the DUNKS TRAUMA CENTER— also of interesting note the Emergency Center is named for Duddie Massad who was my father’s business partner for 30 years and someone I knew quite well.

She’s in there for a few more days and then she heads to rehab, it’s a long road to recovery and it couldn’t come at a worse time as I struggle to regain my footing FREELANCE wise, but that is the peril of this self employed lifestyle— I know it sounds callous, it’s not, since this blog is devoted to the students entering freelance I want to speak truthfully. One of the biggest obstacles of working for yourself is that life gets in the way.
